A Surrey Hills Garden Rescue: Cut-Back, Weed & Re-Mulch

By late autumn, this Surrey Hills garden had gone quiet in the wrong way. Leaf litter blanketed the beds, weeds were coming up through the gravel beside the house, and the circular stepping-stone path had almost disappeared under the overgrowth.

We gave it a full seasonal reset. Every bed was cut back, weeded and cleared of leaves. The gravel path beside the house was cleaned back to a crisp line and the tired ground alongside it topped with fresh soil conditioner. Then the whole garden was dressed in black mulch — and suddenly the bones of a really lovely garden reappeared: the stepping-stone path winding through the beds, the azaleas, the ornamental grasses, the feature trees.

A seasonal clean-up like this does more than tidy things up. Clearing leaf matter reduces fungal problems and stops lawns and groundcovers from smothering, while cutting back before winter sets plants up to bounce back strongly in spring. The dark mulch finish also makes every plant in the bed stand out.
